The Review: MAC Eyeshadow & Lipstick

via MAC Cosmetics

Happy Monday, readers! Today I'm here with a beauty review focused on one of the most tried-and-true high end cosmetic brands: MAC. The brand is known for their rich pigments, specifically in their eyeshadows and lipsticks. Here are my favorite picks from MAC, with a few tips when you shop—

MAC eyeshadows come in a variety of textures, which contribute to a pigment's intensity. For the richest color, try the Veluxe Pearl or Satin textures that have a subtle, shimmery glow without a chunky glitter look. For a more obvious sparkle, Frost-textured shadows have a more solid glitter texture, but don't pack as much punch in terms of color. Traditional Matte finishes always look great, but are less forgiving when it comes to blending out the shadow for a natural finish.

All of the shadows pictured above have a shimmery finish, without too much glitter. Amber Lights, Woodwinked, Jest and All That Glitters are among the beautiful eyeshadows that made MAC famous. However, I've mixed in some new favorites, namely a subtle lavender Beautiful Iris, that are often overlooked in the sea of colors that cover every MAC counter. If you're looking for extra intense color, dampen your eyeshadow brush before applying.

Lipstick

MAC's lipsticks are some of the best your-lips-but-better products out there. For more long lasting color, choose one of the Matte finishes, including the legendary Ruby Woo, but for a more natural, hydrating formula, nothing beats a Creamsheen (my all time favorite is the color Hug Me).

I don't think MAC's lipsticks are the longest-lasting, unless you pair them with one of the brand's many lip liners. If I'm going to be wearing a bright lip color, I line and fill in my lips with liner and then apply lipstick on top. For a quick color refresher as the night goes on, apply a clear lip balm to make the pigment appear more like a worn in stain.

xoxo,
Ashley
