We are in the final stretch of 2014— finally! I have never been more excited for a new year and the fresh start that comes with it. Around this time of year (if not earlier), I start thinking about my resolutions. Cue the eye rolling, but I love goal setting. Even if I "fail," sometimes a small step in the right direction can be the big push needed to start living a better life.
Last year, I had some pretty lofty goals and realized somewhere around March that they weren't totally sustainable. Therefore I've brainstormed a list of some more manageable ideas to share on the blog that will hopefully inspire you to move in a positive direction. Never forget that small changes add up!! Here are some ideas for any goal you have:
1. Read the newspaper or a news digest right when you wake up or before you go to sleep.
2. Set ten minutes aside daily to meditate.
3. Take your make up off every night. Make up remover wipes exist for a reason.
4. Drink 8 glasses of water per day— start the day off right with two cold glasses right when you get up.
5. Try out a new restaurant every month.
6. Make the bed every morning.
7. Head to sleep 20 minutes earlier every night (this adds up to over two extra hours per week!!).
8. Reconnect with an old friend (or make a new one!) over coffee every month.
9. Always follow up with a thank you card.
10. Quickly clean your room before you go to sleep every night.
11. Eat breakfast every morning.
12. Wear sunscreen every day.
13. Try out a new fitness class once a month.
14. Call your parents every week (if you don't already).
15. Set aside time to journal.
16. Get in an extra serving of vegetables.
17. Put down the phone during mealtimes.
18. Pay for a stranger's coffee or toll once a month (because #karma).
19. Turn email push notifications off during the weekend— it really can wait!
20. Find a pen pal and write often.
21. Pamper yourself every month with a massage, a facial or a nail treatment (even if it is DIY!).
22. Make an effort to say thank you more often.
23. Limit your drinking and late night binge eating— seriously, your health will thank you for it.
24. Regularly schedule appointments with your doctor, dentist and yes, your hairdresser.
25. Walk more— take the stairs, park your car in the farthest spot, ditch the subway.
26. Make time to clear out your digital clutter every week— useless emails, screenshots and documents be gone!
27. Sit down for every meal.
28. Read a new book (or watch a movie) for pleasure every month.
29. Switch to whole grains— whenever you have the opportunity, choose whole grains over processed.
30. Find a mantra and repeat as often as needed!
What is your resolution for 2015?
