Happy New Year's Eve!! What a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the last 365 days and gear up for 2015! And when you're ringing in the new year, you'll want to show your best face. Here are my tips for making your makeup last long past midnight, whether you're watching the ball drop at home or bar hopping with friends. Plus, I've also listed my favorite tips for getting glowy skin after you've had a little too much champagne—
Before the party starts...
1. Moisturize your face with a non-silicone moisturizer, but avoid applying eye cream (seriously, you can skip it for one night) which will make your eyeliner and mascara run.
2. You can also skip SPF which will make your face appear ghostly in photos.
3. Prime your face with a non-silicone foundation primer. When silicone comes in contact with water (i.e. sweat or tears), it becomes slippery and makeup slides right off.
4. Set your make up with a translucent powder. Don't apply too much though or it can appear white in photos. Focus on your T-zone, and apply just a light layer on your cheeks.
5. Opt for powder blush and/or bronzer. Skin tends to absorb cream formulas throughout the day, so give yourself a healthy dose of color with a long-lasting powder formula.
6. Apply waterproof mascara and eyeliner. As a rule of thumb, I apply waterproof formulas whenever I go to a party. Somehow, non waterproof formulas always look smudged in photos. This will guarantee that your makeup stays in exactly the right place.
7. Exfoliate lips and apply lip color directly. Skip the moisturizing step in between because it causes color to fade more quickly. For the longest lasting color, try a stain formula.
If you're too tired to actually wash your face, use a pre-soaked makeup wipe at the bare minimum. While this isn't ideal, anything is better than sleeping in a full face of makeup!
The next morning...
1. Deep cleanse your skin. You'll want to first go over your face with make up remover just in case. Use an oil or cleansing balm formula and work into skin to make sure the last traces of shimmer have dissolved. Follow this up with a gel or cream cleanser and rinse your face repeatedly with cold water to boost circulation.
2. Exfoliate for natural glow. Leave a chemical exfoliant on for 2-3 minutes to slough off dead skin cells and prep skin for a dose of moisture.
3. If you have time, apply a mask. If you're experiencing redness, opt for a cooling gel formula. If you can spot the beginning of a break out, slather on something with clay.
4. Rinse your skin again with cold water and apply a hydrating serum. Today you can make up for your lost eye cream by gently patting some extra eye cream on your post-NYE bags.
5. Finish things off with a moisturizer plus SPF. Spend some time really massaging this into your face which encourages lymph drainage and cell turnover.
What is your favorite NYE makeup?
xoxo
