How To: Stay Informed

With all the traveling I've had going on in the past few weeks, I have had to put a lot more effort than usual into keeping up with the news. Through trial and error, however, I have figured out how to remain on top of current events of all types. Here are my suggestions for staying in the know:

1. NYT all the time: NYT is my bible of current events. I have my subscription synched with my phone and computer. I have push notifications turned on both devices, so whenever I have wifi (or 4G) on, I receive notifications as breaking news stories are posted. When I know I won't have service after I leave my house (for example, in Italy), I would refresh the app in the morning so the stories would update and then read them later in the day when I had free time on my phone (no wifi needed!).

2. If you just can't read, Skimm: A lot of newspapers have a daily email digest of the top headlines, but for some people who haven't been following a story since its inception, these blasts can be difficult to follow. Subscribing to the Skimm, a daily email blast that breaks down major news events so even the least informed person can understand them, is a good start to keeping up with current events lately.

3. For fashion, culture, art and life, check R29: Refinery 29 is a fashion, style and culture website/newsletter that features six sections: fashion, living, beauty, entertainment, how to and news. The site is constantly updated thanks to the many contributors and even features city guides for many major metropolitan areas.

4. Want custom news? Join Bloglovin': Finally, for those who want to choose exactly what information they receive, Bloglovin' is the place to go. Users select different blogs they want to follow (follow The Couturist right here!) and receive a daily (or weekly) email with all of the posts from the sites you selected.

xoxo
