Get Glowing: Your Best Summer Skin from Head to Toe!

With rising temperatures come rising hemlines.  Now that summer is upon us and our arms and legs have emerged from beneath winter layers, its time to get our skin in spring shape from head to toe.  No matter where you fall on the porceilin to deep tan spectrum, these tips can help you get your skin looking its best just in time for summer.

1. Exfoliate: In the shower, exfoliate your skin from head to toe with a grainy scrub that will slough away rough, dry skin cells.  I would highly recommend Soap and Glory’s Flake Away Body Polish.  It smells wonderful!

2. Moisturize: Right out of the shower, slather your skin in moisturizer.  Mix in some sunscreen with your moisturizer to help protect your skin.  No matter the weather or your skin tone, skin cancer a reality and is life threatening! Most doctors say you need about a shot glass worth of sunscreen for your body, so use that same rule for moisturizer.  I would recommend Kiehl's Superfluid UV Defense SPF 50+ and Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter.

Now that your body has a healthy glow, it’s time to do the same for your face by contouring and highlighting.

3. Perfect: First, use a kabuki brush to apply translucent powder all over your face and neck so that bronzer will go on smoothly. Try Makeup Forever’s HD Microfinish Powder.

4. Bronze: Contour your cheeks by pursing your lips and placing bronzer under your cheekbones. NARS’ Laguna Bronzer is a flattering shade for almost every skin tone. Use this with a blush brush. In addition to placing this under your cheekbones, also place it on your temples and on your jaw line.

This picture gives a good idea of how contouring can be done most effectively. After applying bronzer with a blush brush, make sure to blend with a clean powder brush.

5. Blush: Then apply blush for the apples of your cheeks.  To make blush look natural rather than clown-ish, smile and begin application about a two finger’s distance from your nose and blend out and up.  A cream blush formula works best and looks most natural if applied with fingers in a pitter patter motion.  Try this powder-cream formula by Chanel.

6. Highlight: Use a highlighter to bring out high points on your face where light would naturally hit you.  Apply MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish the bridge of your nose, along your cheek bones, to the center of your forehead and under your eyebrows for maximum definition. You could even apply this highlighter down your shin bones to increase your glow.

So there you have it, tips for looking like the glowy goddess you are!

xoxo
