The Review: Sunday Riley

We all wish our skin was flawless thanks to good genes, right? For those of us who weren't born with a complexion a la Alexa Chung, check out Sunday Riley's line of super potent products to get clear, poreless skin ASAP.

I've spent the last couple of weeks trying out three Sunday Riley products— Ceramic Slip Cleaner, Good Genes Treatment and Bionic Anti-Aging Cream— and here are my thoughts:

Price: $45 for 4.2 oz

Ingredients: Aqua (water), cocamidopopyl betaine (surfactant, antistatic),sodium cocopolyglucose tartrate (surfactant), ascorbyl palmitate (antioxidant), piper nigrum (black pepper), frakincense, jasminum officinale oil (moisturizer, anti-inflammatory), sandalwood oil, xanthan gum, phenoxyenthanol (preservative), tetrasodium EDTA

Directions: For use as a cleanser, apply 1-2 pumps onto face and massage into skin, shaking before use. For use as a mask, mix with Good Genes and apply to face for 10 to 30 minutes.

Pros: This stuff really works— my skin is clear, soft and radiant! The texture is a slippery, gel-like consistency that does not foam (note: no harsh sulfates in the formula) but effectively clears skin of oil and dirt. I use one pump in the morning (two is too drying) and two pumps in the evening as the second step in cleansing (first step is Boscia's Make Up Break Up Cool Cleansing Oil, then I apply Ceramic Slip right on top without washing oil off and massage both in for about a minute).

Cons: The steep price is obviously the main con, but I've also noted two others— first, this can be drying if you use too much. A little bit (1 pump) really does go a long way! Second, this doesn't work well with the Clairsonic cleansing brush. However, I find that my skin is clearer using this product alone than when I used other cleansers with the Clairsonic.

Price: $105 for 1oz

Ingredients: Licorice (anti-inflammatory, whitening), squalene (moisturizer, eollient), yeast extract, lemongrass, cactus extract (antioxidant, astringent), aloe (anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic), caprylic/capric triglyceride (fragrance), butylene glycol (solvent, moisturizer), cyclomethicone (solvent, antistatic, moisturizer, emollient), dimethicone (emollient), PPG-12/SMDI copolymer (emollient), stearic acid (surfactant), PEG-100 stearate (surfactant), glycyrrhiza galbra (anti-inflammatory, whitening), triethanol amine (pH adjuster), xantham gym

Directions: For use as a daily serum, apply a small amount to face. For use as a mask, mix with Ceramic Slip Cleanser and apply for 10 to 30 minutes.

Pros: Another powerful Sunday Riley product, I noticed that a lot of my hyperpigmentation begin to fade within a few days of nightly use. I also like the lemony scent and that I can "feel" the product working (it tingles). However...

Cons: Beware of using too much too fast and be sure to apply at night! Introduce this super-potent product into your skincare regimen slowly. Use maybe 2 or 3 nights per week for the first week, then every other night, eventually building up to every day. If you apply too much, it can dry out your skin and cause breakouts/irritation. Also be sure to use SPF during the day as your skin is extra-vulnerable to sun damage after using exfoliants.

Price: $125 for 1.7oz

Ingredients: Prickly pear (plant extract), cactus extract (antioxidant, astringent), aloe (anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic), yeast extract, urea (moisturizer, anti-inflammatory), sunflower seed oil (fragrance, antioxidant, emollient, plant extract), caprylic/capric triglyceride (fragrance), butylene glycol (solvent, moisturizer), glyceryl polymethacrylate, squalane (antistatic, moisturizer, emollient), cyclomethicone (solvent, antistatic, moisturizer, emollient), dimethicone (emollient), PPG-12/SMDI copolymer (emollient), stearic acid (surfactant, emulsifier), propylene glycol (solvent, moisturizer), cetearyl alcohol (surfactant, emulsifier), shea butter (moisturizer, emollient), glyceryl stearate (emollient, emulsifier), PEG-100 stearate, saccharomyce, green tea (antioxidant), xanthan gum, pomegranate (astringent, plant extract), stereath-2 (surfactant, emulsifier), palmitoyl oligopeptide (emollienet), sopper tripeptide-1, stearyl glycyrrhetinate, cholestryl nonanoate, cholestryl chloride, butylated hydroxytoluene, methyl paraben, propyl paraben, DMDM hydantoin, blue agave extract, lady's slipper orchid extract, fermet lysate filtrate

Directions: Apple 2-3 pumps morning and night to clean skin.

Pros: I don't stay this lightly, but this is probably my all-time favorite product and has made the biggest different in my skin! I love the super sweet smell, and how light and nourishing this product is in re-balancing my skin after cleansing. I couldn't believe how clear my skin looked when I woke up after using it for the first time. Obsessed— this product is worth its weight in gold!

Cons: Make sure to use extra SPF when using this product as it contains retinol, a Vitamin A derivative that makes skin more sensitive to sunlight.

xoxo,
Ashley
