Finding The Perfect Button Down

 via Pinterest

As much as I hate to admit it, we're now in the final stretch of summer. While I love long hot days spent wearing flip flops and denim cutoffs, there is nothing quite like fall fashion. As the days begin to cool down, I've been turning toward tried and true basic button downs tucked into cuffed jeans or shorts. Today, I've put together my guide for finding the perfect fit and listed a few of my favorite shirts. Enjoy!

1. Choose your material— I love a crisp cotton button down, rather than a clingy silk fabric (although I have a few of each). Cotton button ups are great because the structure allows you to get that great rumpled boyfriend look with a slightly popped collar and rolled sleeves that will stay in place all day.

2. Find your fit—Opt for a slim fit, and then try on various sizes to see what fits you best in the shoulders. You should be able to "hug yourself" from the front without feeling too constrained by the blouse's material, but shouldn't be able to pull more than 2 inches of fabric away from you.

3. Check your length— The sleeves of a perfectly fitting shirt should hit just below the wrists when the sleeves are completely unrolled. The highest part of the body should hit at the hips.
