We've all heard about "classic" pieces of clothing we should invest in as the basis of our wardrobe— from the little black dress to the perfect white button up, these are pieces that will never go out of style. Lately, however, I've added a few other items to my closet that have joined the ranks of my go-to's and look great year round. Here is my list of "new classics" and tips for finding the perfect fit.
The Shirt Dress | The effortlessly chic "off-duty model" look has gained popularity this year with the rise of supermodel it girls like Karlie Kloss and Kendall Jenner— and nothing says cool like a breezy shirt dress. The slouchy silhouette is instantly flattering (hello, flat stomach!) making it a wardrobe staple. This piece can be dressed up or down, and styled to look elegant or edgy (or somewhere in between). Try a screen-printed silk for maximum chic.
The Black Mini | For a skirt worthy of work and play, try a black mini wrap. Paired with a crisp button up, the piece is office-appropriate but can also look chic with a strappy tank for a night out. My favorite way to wear a black mini wrap? With a deep v top and a leather jacket a la Kate Moss!
The Shopper | Long gone are the days of cramming your laptop, notebooks and makeup bag into a boring work bag. These days, I'm always on the go so I turn to a shopping tote to carry me (and my essentials) from work to the grocery store to dinner with friends. Invest in an over-sized chic bag in a neutral color that you can wear every day!
The Ankle Bootie | Ankle booties aren't just for skinny jeans— pair them with dresses and skirts for a chic, edgy look year round! Stick to a 2-3 inch heel for the comfiest fit that you can wear everyday.
The Striped Tee | A boatneck striped tee is so Parisian chic. Worn with the aforementioned mini skirt or a pair of skinny jeans, a striped tee is a major upgrade from your basic solid v neck. Opt for a ribbed shirt with narrow stripes to keep the look flattering.
The Luxe Pullover | A cashmere pull over looks great every season. Tie it around your waist (socially acceptable, right?) during the day and then slip it on as the temperature drops. I just love the look of a baggy sweater with shorts or over a dress!
