How to Survive Long Haul Flights

I have been flying so much lately. This normally wouldn't phase me except that my flights have all been long-haul (which to me, means over 6 hours). I regularly fly 6-7 hours to and from school, but traveling from California to Europe is usually about a 14 to 16 hour ordeal. Tomorrow, I'll be in transit for at least 15 hours (hello 4AM wake up call).

All this flying has made me a pro at packing carry on luggage (and has also done wonders for my patience- now waiting 30 minutes seems like nothing!).

I usually take two bags when I travel on planes, but neither of them are very big because I am very paranoid about breaking TSA rules and having to check my carry on (if it is a road trip, all bets are off and I'm bringing whatever I want). Therefore, I usually bring a tote bag and a cross body bag. I find it really handy to have a small bag with my essentials in it, and then my carry on for things to entertain me in-flight.

Here's my packing list:

Some of my essentials pictured: magazines, iPad, face mist, hand cream, sleep mask, jewelry pouch, headphones, passport case, pen, journal, earbuds, scarf, protein bar, travel perfume, lip balm, glasses, gum, book

Small Bag: I always keep my wallet, boarding pass and cell phone in here. I also bring my passport (in an adorable case my boyfriend gave me) as well as a simple pair of earbuds (the ones the iPhone comes with). I usually have a pack of mint gum, lip balm and my reading glasses (in case of a contact lens emergency). If I'm going on a really long flight, I take my contacts on the side to put on when I land and wear glasses the whole flight. I also keep a little jewelry pouch in here. I like to remove my jewelry when I get on the plane so I am extra comfortable and I also keep a little silver travel frame with photos here.

Tote Bag: I do a lot of reading on long flights. I buy at least 2 (more like 6) magazines at the airport. At the end of the flight when I've finished reading, I often give them to the flight staff instead of throwing them out. I rarely travel without my iPad. Even when I bring my laptop, I love my iPad for movie watching. The battery seems to last a very long time! I also tuck a book in my bag. Some of my other essentials include a sleep mask, a luna bar, noise canceling headphones, hand cream, face spray, and mini perfume. To stay warm (flights are always so chilly!) I usually bring a large cashmere scarf and a pair of super cozy socks (judge me).

Happy travels!
xoxo
