After quite the hiatus, I am back on the blogosphere (and hopefully here to stay for awhile). Lately, I've had skincare on the mind given the absolutely freezing Northeastern weather I've been facing over the last few weeks. Between the cold and the wind, my skin has dulled and been depleted of moisture. However, a few days of face masks and diligent moisturizing has whipped my skin back into shape, so I've rounded up my favorite winter skincare tips as well as a list of my favorite radiance-restoring products.
Weleda Skin Food / Tatcha Pure One-Step Camellia Cleansing Oil / Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate / Bobbi Brown Skin Nourish Mask / Sunday Riley Good Genes / Belif Hungarian Water Essence / Belif Witch Hazel Toner / Belif The True Cream / Dermadoctor Wrinkle Revenge / Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask
1. Layer on moisture. Your standard wash and moisturize routine won't cut it when temperatures are frigid. Step up your game with hydrating toners and essences packed with moisturizing ingredients such as hylauronic acid or glycerin.
2. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! It may seem counter-intuitive, but it is super important to continue exfoliating when it is cold out to remove dead skin cells and allow moisturizers to penetrate deeply. Either use an intensive enzyme peel 2x per week or a serum packed with glycolic, lactic or alpha-hydroxy acids.
3. Oil is your friend. People often equate oil with acne, but a blend of hydrating oils can actually help nourish and clear your skin. If acne is a major concern for you, opt for an oil blend that contains tea tree and grapeseed oils which curb oil production and kill bacteria while still naturally moisturizing. For the driest skin, marula and argan oils help calm irritation and prevent aging.
Happy winter and happy moisturizing!
